Drama Note 25: Contagious Beethoven Virus

Beethoven Virus OST – My Person

MBC’s recent Wednesday and Thursday drama, Beethoven Virus, has hit well with the audience for the past ten episodes out of the nineteen total episodes. Lee Ji Ah (Legend) plays Du Ri Mi, an aspiring young violinist who forms a love triangle between Kang Gun Woo, played by Jang Geun Suk (Hong Gil Dong) a former policeman turned trumpeter, and the Maestro Kang Gun Woo, acted by Kim Myung Min (White Tower, Bad Family), the conductor who is known for his mean demeanor, rude remarks, obnoxious and fabulous conducting abilities. First off, the cast contains Jang Geun Suk who has just taken off with his acting career, marked by his success in Hong Gil Dong, as well as actress Lee Ji Ah who reached her success through her debut in Legend alongside Bae Yong Gun. KIm Myung Min is more or less the veteran actor of the group with more experience under his belt that than his co-stars.

Personally, I wasn’t really interested in this drama when it premiered because of the very predictable storyline and outcomes. I could see it being another cliche drama with just a new theme to disguise the overused expressions and lines. In contrast, the drama proves to be one of a kind with a curious plot and excellent acting. Brownie points to Kim Myung MIn for excellent acting as a mean and rude orchestra conductor. Lee Ji Ah and Jang Geun Suk also must be commended on superb acting with lots of emotions. Despite some criticism at the beginning of the drama at Lee Ji Ah and Jang Geun Suk for mediocre acting, I really think that they picked it up towards the middle episodes. I really recommend this drama especially for all you Lee Ji Ah and Jang Geun Suk fans!
