Drama Note 16: Lee Dong Gun Experiences Funeral

Lee Dong Gun, a renowned actors since his appearance in the drama alongside Han Ji Hye, recently had a traumatizing experience at his younger brother’s funeral at St. John’s Chapel in Australia on March 20th, 2008. His brother, Lee Joon-yub, age 19, was attending the University of Sydney, when he collapsed after getting into a fight with a two teenagers outside a Korean store. Not only is the death a hit for the family, but has also damaged Australia’s image as a safe city. Australia has the second highest population of Korean students after London, England and the current death of celebrity’s brother certainly has not done anything to help its reputation.

Lee Dong Gun, after appearing in the 2004 drama Sweet 18, when on to act in more intense and serious drama, such as Stained Glass (2004), Smile Again (20076) and If In Love Like Them (2007). Amazing, he has been able to put this experience behind him and continue acting for the sake of his fan in the drama When It’s At Night when actress Kim Su Ah (My Lovely Kim Sam Soon).

Drama Note 15: MY MVP Valentine Couples

I am devoting this post to a few couples that have come from on stage love to off stage dating! Some of them are already separated, but just like a short for-your-information post…

1. My MVP Valentine

If you haven’t watched the Taiwanese drama MVP Valentine, this post and the title might not be helpful, but those of you have seen it, remember the couple, Johnny Yan (Legend of Star Apple) and Angela Zhang (Bump Off Lover, Romantic Princesses)? Both singers and in the acting business… Well, turns out they aren’t just a drama couple, but a couple in real life! Occasionally we see couple from staged love to real love… Congrats to this new celebrity couple who has keep their relationship pretty low profile, but plan on setting their engagement in May of 2009. Let’s hope that the plan runs smoothly and there will be a wedding soon!

2. Mars

The co-stars from Meteor Garden i and Meteor Garden II reconnected in 2005 to create the hit Taiwanese drama Mars about a shy girl with childhood nightmares who meets a playboy who has problems of his own. As they discover each other problems and help each other deal with them, an unthinkable bond sprouts as these two opposites become lovers. After their third drama together, Vic Zhou and Barbie finally had an off stage spark and the two began dating in 2005 after the production of their drama Mars. One of the hottest and most popular drama couple had an unexpected breakup at the beginning of 2007, after a two-year relationship. The break-up caused a huge uproar and still, fans (like myself ^_^) still can’t get over the separation. But it was nice to know what once was, right? Maybe they will have another future together, even though the chance is really slim… -_-

3. Sweet 18

The on stage couple from Sweet 18 and the follow up movie My Boyfriend is Type B may have sparked the relationship between the two co-stars. It is unconfirmed if the two are still dating… (-_- ?? ) so we hope for some good news soon as each take off in their drama careers!

Drama Note 14: Fated to Love You Even More

SG Wannabe – Sin and Punishment part 1

SG Wannabe – As We Live (Saldaga) part 2

“Fated to Love You” has become the hit drama of all time with the possibility of having the highest rating that I have every seen for any drama. The production started out with a predicted 13 episodes. Nice short and sweet. But as the popularity rose, so did the pride of the director. Suddenly the episodes were changed from 13 to 23 and I was like “wow” because that’s an extra ten episodes to fill in. Most dramas are ruined like this. Good ratings in the beginnings and then bam! an extra ten to fifteen episodes, like The King and I. However, I have to admit that the drama’s intesity and uniqueness has never failed in the past four episodes since my last post. I realize that I did create a chart for a representation of Fated to Love You ratings in comparison with other dramas that have been famous or aired at about the same time, so I hoped that was helpful. As I said before, episode 14 had a rating of about 9.17/10 which astonished me, but I really felt that the episode deserved a high rating. Episodes 15 and 16 reached about an average of 9.09, so the drama held it’s popularity with almost no decrease, but episode 17 really knocked all the ratings off the chart with a 9.69! So I hope that those of you who read my last post and still didn’t watch the drama will reconsider and you can find episode 17 with english subtitles on www.mysoju.com. The subs usually come about really really fast so even watching with the subtitles won’t make you that far behind the actual episodes. Have fun!

** NEWS UPDATE: I am also starting to update the TW drama OST since I have finished the KDrama OST, but please tell me if you need anything or I don’t know if this is really benefiting anyone or just taking up time. :0
